Blue dancing is NOT danced to the music.

Blues dancing is danced to the BLUES.

I was confused for a long time, because every

"dance blues class" I went to was teaching a different dance! That's because Blues Dancing isn't about the steps and the moves.

The default in Blues dancing is to

do "nothing", except

Like this Willie Nelson song, before you got to the blues dance, EVERYTHING

had gone wrong. Your partner's mental condition? Ditto.

Then, for some weird reason, you stopped at the bowling alley on the way

to pick up a ball to bring with you. You didn't pick up a kid ball,

or a lady's ball, or a man's ball. You picked up the MACHO man's ball!

And now it is in your hip, dancing a blues song. It is HEAVY!

You're not bouncing around when dancing the blues. You're HEAVY!

One of the hardest things in social dancing is to

get a swing dancer to "slow down".

2nd hardest: get a blues dancer to "speed up"!

If you haven't felt that heavy blues connection yet,

it is not yet time to do a move!

Slow down! Connect!

Nowhere is that clearer than in the turns.

Swing dancers are almost always turning

in time with the music.

When a lead "leads" a turn in blues, it is really an

"offer" to "feel your blues".

A single turn might take an ENTIRE song!

If you're the lead, give it time!
