I dance across many dance styles, venues and dance groups in the Denver Metro Area, which has around 4 million people.
Sadly, almost nobody dances. By "dances", I mean a person who WANTS to dance and does it a least once a month, as opposed to somebody who gets wrangled into a wedding dance once a year. Of the "dancers", half dance once a week or more.
Here are my guesstimates of the number of people dancing the major dance styles in the area (each of which is danced at multiple venues):
* East Coast Swing: 2,000
* Lindy/Balboa/Charleston/Collegiate Shag: 1,000
* West Coast Swing: 1,000
* Ballroom: 1,000
* Salsa/Bachata: 1,000
* Country: 1,000
* Tango: 1,000
* Blues Zouk Kizumba Fusion SquareDance Contra everything else: 2,000.
* Total: 10,000
Or 0.25% of the population. Which is really, really sad.
My experience, is that well over half of all adults like the IDEA of dancing, but are scared to death to actually go do it. That means there are a million people in Denver wanting to dance but not doing it. They should!

I would love to help you get going.
Need help? Don't know where to start? Have a question? Ask me!
Need to dance, but are afraid to get on the floor? Ask me to dance!
It has long been my goal, at any dance, to dance with everyone in the room, from beginner to pro. That is rarely possible.... but I take it seriously, which is why I have danced with more than 20,000 people.
Dancing with pros.... so much skill and connection and play.... and they are mostly so eager to help. Often, simply sublime dancing.
Dancing with beginners can be even better. There is nothing quite as satisfying as getting a nervous beginner onto the dance floor, getting them past their fear and breaking into laughter, enjoying a social dance for the first time. That is magic.
Can I be your first dance? Please? Ask me!
... And I have often gotten thanks back for that in words, years later, when they have become a passionate dancer. Those are simply WOW moments.
Start dancing. Dance with everybody. Try to make sure everybody has a good time. Let's expand our tiny little dance community. MORE people need to be DANCING!
We were born dancing. It is rare to find a toddler that is not boogying down.
"Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn't music." - William Stafford
Pretty much all of us were born dancing. Then we grow up and learn to be embarrassed about it.
I think the biggest challenge of dancing working our way back to the pure joy of being two again.
